A Privacy Policy discloses, how your website collects and manages the user’s personal, sensitive or other confidential information. Such information can be anything from Name, Age, Date of Birth, Marital Status, Sex orientation, Medical Records, Bank/Credit card Details, etc and also includes the use of cookies or tracking of user’s IP addresses. The same is regulated in India as per the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The Information Technology Act 2000 and its rules specifically lay down Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures for handling of sensitive personal data or information and also impose a duty upon Intermediaries, i.e. online service providers to publish a Privacy Policy upon their website.
But the task is more complicated if you are catering to users in western countries, which requires you to comply with local privacy laws, especially in European Union.
